COACHES

Coach Pino

Coach Pino has been a coach at Rio Rancho High School for 22 years and is entering his fifth season as head coach. Before taking over the program, he served as the team’s offensive coordinator. He has also coached track and field, including a short stint as head coach.

In addition to coaching, Coach Pino has been a dedicated educator at RRHS since 2005, teaching history and physical education. A proud member of the Class of 2000, he was a standout multi-sport athlete in football and track. He holds the distinction of being Rio Rancho High School’s first All-State football player and North/South All-Star.

Coach Pino values faith, family, and service. He and his wife, Sara, have been married for 24 years and have four children: Aubrey, Alyssa, Samuel, and Ian. In his free time, he enjoys spending time with family, golfing, watching movies, fishing, following sports, and traveling.

Coach Stanley

Coach Stanley brings more than 50 years of football experience at the high school and collegiate levels. He began his coaching career in 1969 at Alice High School in Texas as a defensive coordinator and has served in a wide range of roles, including offensive line coach, offensive coordinator, and assistant head coach.

His collegiate coaching career includes stops at Texas A&M, TCU, Vanderbilt, Texas, Purdue, Akron, Temple, SMU, Kansas State, UNM, and Western Michigan. Throughout his career, Coach Stanley has been widely respected for his ability to develop offensive linemen and build disciplined, physical football programs. He currently works with the Rio Rancho offensive line.

As a player, Coach Stanley was a three-year letterman at the University of Texas under legendary head coach Darrell Royal. In 1966, he helped lead the Longhorns to a Bluebonnet Bowl appearance. He earned his bachelor’s degree in Education from Texas in 1968.

Off the field, Coach Stanley is a dedicated family man. He and his wife, Deborah, have five grown children and ten grandchildren. His passion for football and commitment to mentoring young athletes continue to make a lasting impact.

Coach Santos

Coach Michael Santos has been a cornerstone of Rio Rancho High School athletics since 1998, helping shape generations of student-athletes through his leadership across multiple sports. A football coach since 1995, he has coached at every level of the game and currently serves as the JV and Varsity Defensive Line Coach.

Known for developing tough, disciplined, and technically sound linemen, Coach Santos brings more than 30 years of coaching experience to the program. Beyond football, he has served as the Head Wrestling Coach since 2010, building one of Rio Rancho’s most respected and competitive programs. He also coaches boys and girls throws for the track and field program.

Coach Santos remains deeply invested in the Rio Rancho community and is dedicated to developing strong competitors and outstanding young men and women on and off the field.

Coach Martinez

Coach Martinez is entering his 18th season coaching high school football and his sixth season at Rio Rancho High School. He brings a passion for the game and a commitment to helping student-athletes grow both on and off the field.

Outside of coaching, Coach Martinez enjoys spending time with his wife, Jess, and their three children: Myles, Kyla, and Sylas. Whether at home, out as a family, or traveling, his favorite thing to do is spend time with them.

He also enjoys watching all types of sports, eating good food, and anything football.

Coach Lovato

Coach Lovato is a former defensive lineman with 14 years of playing experience, including four years at the University of New Mexico. He brings 10 years of high school coaching experience, primarily working with defensive line units.

Known for developing disciplined, physical players, Coach Lovato emphasizes fundamentals, technique, and a strong work ethic. His coaching approach focuses on helping athletes grow both on and off the field.

Coach Archuleta

Coach Phillip Archuleta is entering his 13th season coaching football. He has been a football coach and teacher at Rio Rancho High School since the summer of 2023.

Coach Archuleta got his start in football at the University of New Mexico, where he served as an equipment manager for the football program. He began his coaching career at Albuquerque High School, where he helped the program snap a four-year varsity losing streak. The following year, he coached special teams at New Mexico Highlands University and has since coached at several programs throughout the Albuquerque metro area.

Coach Archuleta began his teaching career at Atrisco Heritage in 2018. In his free time, he enjoys fishing and playing music, especially drums and guitar.

Coach Victor

Coach Victor began coaching at Rio Rancho High School in 2021 as the freshman head coach after several years of coaching youth football. He later became the quarterbacks coach and JV head coach, and currently serves as the quarterbacks coach and pass game coordinator.

Coach Victor is passionate about football and committed to developing players both on and off the field. He and his wife, Audrey, have seven children, including four sons who have played or are currently playing football at Rio Rancho.

Coach Calzada

Coach Calzada is entering his fifth year coaching at Rio Rancho High School. A proud 2006 Rio Rancho graduate, he was a four-sport athlete, competing in football, baseball, track, and wrestling.

This season marks his 12th year coaching varsity football, with previous experience at Albuquerque High, Socorro High, and RRPS middle schools. Outside of coaching, Coach Calzada substitute teaches, works as a personal trainer, attends college online, and helps manage his family’s restaurant.

Coach Calzada comes from a strong athletic and service-oriented family. His three younger brothers are Rio football alumni, and members of his family have served in the military. He strives to honor that legacy by coaching with discipline, passion, and a selfless, team-first mindset.

In his free time, he enjoys playing music, hiking with his dog, working out, reading, watching movies, and mentoring young people.

Coach Carreathers

Coach Harvey Carreathers serves as Rio Rancho’s Head Freshman Football Coach and Head Boys Track Coach. He has been at Rio Rancho High School for the past four years.

Before joining RRHS, Coach Carreathers spent more than 20 years at Manzano High School, where he served in many roles, including defensive coordinator and freshman position coach. In the classroom, he primarily teaches New Mexico History and is known for greeting his students as “historians and scholars.”

Outside of Rio Rancho High School, Coach Carreathers enjoys spending time with his wife, Mrs. Greene, who is also a teacher at RRHS, and their two sons.

Coach Thorton

Coach Thornton has been a freshman football coach for three years and a powerlifting coach for four years. He is also a five-time national strongman qualifier and a NASA state record holder in powerlifting.

Coach Thornton brings strength, discipline, and competitive experience to his coaching. He is committed to helping athletes build confidence, toughness, and work ethic.

He and his wife, Ceslie, have been married for 10 years and have two children: Greanlie, who competes in powerlifting and plays rugby, and Silas Jr., who is involved in both powerlifting and football.

Coach Williams

Coach Chris Williams is a Rio Rancho alumnus, New Mexico State University Hall of Fame football player, and former professional football player with 10 years of experience in the NFL and CFL.

He is entering his sixth year coaching wide receivers at his alma mater. Coach Williams is passionate about sports, loves to compete, and enjoys helping athletes grow in their skills and confidence.

Coach Williams and his wife, Lana, have three children: Knighdon, CJ, and Karissa. Outside of coaching, he enjoys spending time with family, playing video games, working out, cooking, and teaching math.

Coach Howe

Coach Chris Howe brings 30 years of coaching and teaching experience in New Mexico, with experience at seven different schools, in six different sports, and across many subject areas. This is his second year back at Rio Rancho High School in his second stint with the program.

Coach Howe currently coaches inside linebackers and serves as a Dean at Explore Academy Rio. During his first five years at Rio Rancho from 2014 to 2018, he served as Defensive Coordinator and Associate Head Coach while teaching science and serving as the Special Education Instructional Leader. During that time, the Rams played in four semifinals and won two undefeated state championships.

Coach Howe’s main goal as a coach has always been to help “build better men” — men of character, accountability, resilience, selflessness, and commitment. He believes these traits create better players, teammates, students, community members, and future leaders.

Coach Howe has been married to his wife, Kelly, for 34 years. Kelly is a Biology Professor at UNM. They have two children, Cassidy and Zero, who both graduated from Rio Rancho Public Schools. Outside of coaching, Coach Howe enjoys mountain biking, hiking, kayaking, rafting, and traveling the world with his wife.

Coach Ramirez

Coach Steven Ramirez is a proud graduate of Rio Rancho High School and the University of New Mexico, where he earned his bachelor’s degree in Secondary Education. He currently teaches Special Education at eCademy High School.

Coach Ramirez brings 12 years of experience in education and coaching, including the past four years as an offensive coordinator. During his career, he has been part of four state championship teams: two in football in 2014 and 2016, and two as a throws coach for Rio Rancho’s girls track and field team in 2024 and 2025.

Coach Ramirez is passionate about developing student-athletes both on and off the field. He emphasizes hard work, accountability, and continuous growth.

Coach Jack

Coach Eric Jack brings more than 18 years of high school coaching experience and is committed to developing student-athletes both on and off the field. He currently serves as a Defensive Backs Coach at Rio Rancho High School, where he has coached for the past five years.

Before joining Rio Rancho, Coach Jack coached at Cibola High School and Atrisco Heritage High School, where he served as Defensive Coordinator. His experience has helped strengthen his expertise in player development and defensive strategy.

A former professional football player with the Atlanta Falcons, Coach Jack brings valuable firsthand experience from the highest level of competition. He played collegiate football at the University of New Mexico from 1990 to 1993, building the foundation for his lifelong commitment to athletics and mentorship.
